How to uninstall apps and programs in Windows 10

If you have recently upgraded to Microsoft’s latest operating system Windows 10 then there will be lots of questions on your mind relating to the new OS, one of it being how to uninstall unwanted applications and programs from Windows. Well, there are three ways of deleting redundant apps and programs from new Windows 10.

Here are three methods of deleting apps and programs from PC Windows 10.

How to uninstall Apps & Programs in Windows 10:

Start Menu

Simplest and quickest way of deleting Windows 10 apps and some desktop programs is from the Start Menu. Note, you can’t delete default Windows programs from Start Menu. Now click Start (small windows icon on the bottom left corner of desktop screen) then go to All Apps which contains the list of all installed apps and programs on your PC. Select the app you want to uninstall, right click on it and click uninstall from the drop-down menu. When you click uninstall for non-default desktop programs in Start Menu it will take you to new Programs and Features window in Control Panel, just click on the program you want to get rid of from the list to uninstall it.

Setting Menu

This is a new option available only in Windows 10. If you want to see more detail about an app before deleting it then go to Start > Settings > System > Apps & Features. You can sort apps by name, size and install date. If you want to see apps installed on a particular drive then click on ‘show app on all drives’ menu, you can move apps among drives from here as well. Or just type the name of the app you want to uninstall, now click on the app and hit uninstall.

Control Panel

Final method is what all Windows users must have been familiar with by now, which is good old Control panel. From Start Menu go to Control Panel and click on Programs and Features. Now from the list all installed programs on your PC select the one you want uninstall and click Uninstall. Hit Yes to confirm that you want to delete the program.

How to uninstall default Apps and Programs in Windows 10

There is plethora of default applications and programs also known as native apps in Windows 10 OS. They may not take much hard disk pace but do muddle Start Menu by creating a jumble of apps and programs. But there is a way of getting rid of these superfluous default programs. You already how to uninstall normal apps and programs but here’s a brief guide to disencumber unnecessary default apps and programs.

  • Go to Start > All Apps > Windows PowerShell.
  • Right-click Windows PowerShell and select Run as Administrator from the context menu. Allow this app to make changes to your computer by clicking Yes on new pop-up window.
  • A new PowerShell prompt windows will show up similar to MS-DOS in older Windows PCs. Now type the command mentioned below to remove lets say Windows Maps:

                                    Get-AppxPackage *windowsmaps* | Remove-AppxPackage

  • Hit the Enter key and your default app is uninstalled from Windows 10. In order to delete other default programs, write the same command with the required program name. For example, instead of *windowsmaps* in the above command, type *3dbuilder* or *windowscamera* or any other default app and program name you want to delete.

Default programs that can be uninstalled using this method include 3D Builder, Movies & TV, OneNote, Store, Camera, Alarms and Clock, Maps, People and Mail. You cannot remove Cortana, Windows Feedback and Microsoft Edge from your Windows 10 PC, for uninstalling the rest follow instructions given above.
